Coastwise project funds survey on future of coast road

It was good to hear at this week’s Coastal Forum (a meeting for councils and communities affected by coastal defence issues in Norfolk and Suffolk) that work is moving forward on planning for the future of the coast road.

A number of years ago, I asked the question, what plans does Norfolk County Council have to manage the possible loss of the coast road around Trimingham and Mundesley to erosion? At the time I was simply told, drivers would have to find another route. Fortunately attitudes seem to have changed and County Hall is at least planning to survey road use in the area to start making a plan.

The Coastwise project – which is funding a number of projects to reduce the impact of coastal erosion – is funding road use surveys that will begin in August this year.

I’ve encouraged the team to make sure they engage with the local community – particularly Trimingham – to ensure they get a full picture and to properly understand local needs.

I’ll report back as information becomes available.
