COUNTY COUNCIL BUDGET CONSULTATION
The County Council needs to save another £41.6 million in 2026-27.
Overall spending will rise by £298m over the next 5 years but the savings are compared to what would be expected if spending had simply risen in line with rising costs and increasing demand for services.
The draft budget includes 50 budget saving proposals, and proposals to increase council tax, which provides a large part of the funding the county council needs.
Three options are being considered for increasing Council Tax:
- An increase of 3%
 - An increase of up to 5%
 - An increase of more than 5%

The consultation closes on Monday 15 December 2025. The council’s select committees will comment on the budget proposals, before Cabinet finalises the proposals in January 2026 and the Full Council makes a final decision on the budget in February 2026.
