Plans for management of coast move forward

A new Management Plan for the Norfolk Coast is on its way to being approved. A public consultation has ended and the Plan will now be reviewed by local councils – including Norfolk County Council. I have asked the County Council to set out what the process will be for scrutinising and deciding on the plan at County Hall.

Meanwhile the Coastwise project is also progressing under the stewardship of North Norfolk District Council. Coastwise funding will help to:

  • carry out a strategic review of options for the coast road if/when it is lost to erosion. I highlighted part of this work back in August when surveys were carried out on local roads. I have asked the County Council Highways team for an update on progress since then
  • support work around Trimingham to move water away from the cliffs by encouraging it to flow into the River Mun
  • prepare coastal communities – including Overstrand and Trimingham – for the impact of erosion with projects such as capturing local memories of the coast. I was please to put consultants working on the project in touch with the County Museums Service to make sure they were working together
  • planning for the future of important local infrastructure that might be affected by erosion. I was pleased to talk to the County Council’s schools planning team, our local MP and the Coastwise team about this before Christmas to help ensure the impact on local schools is considered

Finally, not linked to Coastwise, but I am delighted that plans are moving forward for new road safety measures in Trimingham that will help to keep walkers, residents and road users safe in the future. This work has been funded from a number of sources, including the Parish Council.
