Good news for Bacton as new car park nears

Bacton is very short of dedicated parking space and despite the Coronavirus Pandemic it is likely to keep growing as a popular day-trip destination. The Parish Council and local residents have been asking for a former car park close to the gas terminal to be reinstated for a number of years. I first raised it soon after I was elected and I am pleased to say North Norfolk District Council have confirmed that it is close to re-opening. Last week I got this message from them:

Dear Councillor Maxfield

I can confirm the works to create the car park at Bacton are now well underway with the Type 1 surfacing going down and being compacted this week.  All fencing has been repaired/replaced and car park signage will go up this week also.

We will be installing timber bay demarcation (as at Happisburgh) as soon as supplies are delivered and installing ducting along the verge in the next 2-3 weeks with UKPN connected in approx. 10 – 12 weeks.

The only delay to the car park opening is waiting for the ticket machine – I have not yet got a delivery date but it is anticipated in 2 – 3 weeks. Initially we will be using a solar machine until the power supply is connected for the machine and adjacent lighting pole.
