Coastwise traffic surveys assess future of coast road

For the last couple of weeks, residents will have noticed traffic counters and perhaps some cameras on the roads near the coast in the Trimingham/Mundesley area. This is all part of a Coastwise-funded project to consider options for the future of roads in the area as erosion advances.

Proactive study of road use in the area and options for the future is something I first called for almost 8 years ago when I was first elected to the County Council so I am delighted this work is finally being done.

In advance of the latest studies I was given the following information by County Hall:

We are mindful of the tight time scale in relation to the project so are going ahead with the required traffic surveys. We wanted to get these done in the summer holiday period when the coast road is busiest and harvesting is still occurring so we can get as full a picture of the road network in the study area as possible.

The surveys are booked to take place in w/c 18th of August, there will be automatic traffic counters down for 2 weeks and video cameras erected for 2 days. The video cameras will help us establish origin and destinations but all data will be anonymised so no individual will be identifiable.

Somewhere in the region of 50 cameras will be deployed between Cromer, North Walsham and Mundesley so I am sure you will be contacted about them.

Any public concerns about the cameras can be raised through the normal customer service channels or if you yourself have any please send them directly to the team mailbox – trafficsurveys@norfolk.gov.uk
